Why PlacePass matters for tour operators
Most tour and activity operators already sell through their own website and perhaps a couple of the big consumer marketplaces. But a large share of experience bookings happens somewhere else entirely — inside the apps, websites and loyalty programmes of hotels, airlines and vacation rental brands. PlacePass by Hopper lives in exactly that space. Rather than being another consumer marketplace you have to compete on, it supplies tours and activities to other travel companies, which means your products can surface in front of travellers you would struggle to reach with your own marketing budget.
Connected through TicketingHub's channel manager, PlacePass becomes one more sales channel feeding the same calendar, the same manifest and the same dashboard as your direct bookings. Availability is shared live, every booking lands in one place, and nothing has to be re-keyed by hand.
What is PlacePass by Hopper?
PlacePass is one of the world's largest activity aggregators, listing more than 300,000 experiences across over 800 global destinations. It partners with leading hotels, airlines and vacation rental companies as a B2B provider of tour and activity booking technology — in plain terms, it is often the engine behind the "things to do" section of other travel brands.
PlacePass was acquired by Hopper, the mobile-first travel company best known for its price-prediction technology and flexible-booking products. Hopper features such as Price Freeze and Cancel For Any Reason are designed to give travellers confidence at the moment of booking — and a confident traveller is far more likely to complete a purchase than a hesitant one.
How the integration works
The connection runs through TicketingHub's channel manager, the same mechanism behind our other OTA and reseller integrations. In practical terms:
- Live availability — your real-time capacity is shared with the channel, so PlacePass only ever sells spaces you actually have.
- One dashboard — bookings made through PlacePass drop straight into your TicketingHub dashboard and daily manifest, right alongside your direct sales.
- No double-bookings — when a departure fills up on any channel, it closes everywhere at once.
- No re-keying — guest details arrive automatically, so your team never copies bookings between systems by hand.
Commission and settlement terms are agreed directly between you and the channel, just as with any reseller relationship.
Where PlacePass fits in your channel mix
Reaching guests through hotel and airline brands
A traveller booking a flight or a hotel room is very often planning activities in the same session. Because PlacePass powers experience listings for other travel brands, your food tour, day trip or attraction ticket can appear at exactly that moment — a placement you simply cannot buy through ordinary advertising.
Filling quieter departures
Aggregator demand tends to arrive from travellers whose plans are set by flights and hotel stays rather than by your marketing calendar, so it spreads across the week and the season. Many operators use channels like PlacePass to top up midweek and off-peak departures that direct demand alone leaves half-empty.
Testing new products on a wider audience
Launching a new tour or ticket type? Adding it to an extra channel is a low-effort way to gauge demand beyond your existing audience, and TicketingHub's per-channel reporting shows you exactly where every booking came from, so you can judge the experiment on real numbers.
How to get connected
PlacePass is enabled through the channel manager. Inside your TicketingHub dashboard the general flow is: add a wholesale rate to the products you want to distribute, create a reseller profile for the channel, then create a channel containing those products. Our team handles the handshake with the partner side — contact your account manager or support and we will enable the channel and confirm the connection with you end to end.
Once you are live, it is worth making a quick test booking on the channel and checking that it shows up in your Orders list with the reseller name attached. That is the standard way we verify any OTA connection before real bookings start flowing.
Frequently asked questions
Do PlacePass bookings look different in my dashboard?
No — they appear in the same Orders list, manifests and reports as every other booking, tagged with the channel name so you can filter and report on them separately whenever you want to.
Can I choose which products PlacePass sells?
Yes. A channel only contains the products you add to it, so you can distribute your full range or just a hand-picked subset, each at the rate you assign.
What happens when a tour sells out?
Availability is shared in real time, so the moment the last space goes — on any channel, or at your own front desk — the departure closes everywhere. Overselling through a connected channel is not something you need to police manually.
What are Price Freeze and Cancel For Any Reason?
They are traveller-facing flexibility features offered on the Hopper side, designed to remove hesitation at checkout. They are managed by the channel; your bookings arrive in TicketingHub like any other channel booking.
How long does setup take?
The dashboard steps take a matter of minutes. The main lead time is the partner enabling your listings on their side, and our support team stays with you until the first test booking has been verified.
How is PlacePass different from a consumer OTA?
Consumer OTAs sell to travellers on their own storefront; PlacePass primarily distributes experiences through other travel brands' storefronts. From your side in TicketingHub the mechanics are identical — a channel selling from live availability — but the audience it reaches is one that consumer marketplaces and your own advertising largely miss.
